On April 27, 2024, 14-year-old Markayla Aiyonna Roberts was fatally struck by a stray bullet while sleeping at her grandmother's mobile home on Bayshore Drive in Fairfax, South Carolina. The bullet penetrated the wall of the residence, hitting Markayla in the head. Despite her family's immediate efforts to rush her to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
