On December 21, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., 33-year-old William Alex Breeden III of Wagram, North Carolina, was fatally shot at the Clinton Inn located at 1609 U.S. 401 South in Laurinburg. According to reports, Breeden informed his family that he was stepping out to go to the store. Shortly after he exited his room, his family members heard gunshots. Breeden then re-entered the room, stating that he had been shot.
He was promptly transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Laurinburg Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation into the incident. Their efforts led to the arrest of 18-year-old Jeremiah Da’Mon Locklear of Pembroke, North Carolina. Locklear has been charged with first-degree murder, common law robbery, discharging a firearm within city limits, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held without bond at the Scotland County Jail.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the relationship, if any, between Breeden and Locklear, nor have they provided a possible motive for the shooting.
