On January 16, 2024, at approximately 6:15 p.m., deputies from the Scotland County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a gunshot victim on Ninth Street in East Laurinburg, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Isaiah Emmanuel Smith, a resident of the Bayfield Community, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
