In the late afternoon of Friday, December 13, 2024, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Suitland, Maryland neighborhood. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 4:00 p.m., police arrived in the 3400 block of Pearl Drive to a grim scene. There, on a sidewalk, lay 17-year-old James Fitzgerald, a resident of Suitland, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics were unable to save the young man, and he was pronounced dead at the location.
The tragic event cut short the life of a young man described as a loving uncle, brother, cousin, nephew, and grandson. Homicide Unit detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department are actively investigating the fatal shooting. In an effort to bring an end to the uncertainty for a grieving family and community, authorities are seeking assistance from the public.
Currently, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and investigators are working to identify any potential suspects involved in the death of James Fitzgerald. No arrests have been made in the case. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.
