In the early evening of December 17, 2024, a quiet street in Forest Heights, Maryland, became the scene of a tragic incident that claimed the life of 21-year-old Sakou Mathis of Washington, D.C. At approximately 5:50 p.m., officers from the Forest Heights Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Seneca Drive following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
The two victims were identified as Sakou Mathis and 24-year-old Brian Freeman of Forest Heights. Despite the immediate response and efforts of first responders, both Mathis and Freeman were pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the double homicide was subsequently taken over by the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit.
As of now, the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain under investigation by detectives. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been made. The police are actively working to determine a motive for the shooting and have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
