In the winter of 2024, the life of 21-year-old Dakota 'Cody' Joseph Naquin of Slaughter, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the morning of Friday, December 6, 2024, the young man was fatally shot at the Palms at Sunset Lakes Apartment Complex on McHugh Road in Zachary. When Zachary Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 10:25 a.m., they found Naquin with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
