On December 6, 2024, at approximately 10:25 a.m., officers from the Zachary Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the Palms Apartments on McHugh Road, situated between Main Street and Lower Zachary Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old Dakota "Cody" Joseph Naquin, a resident of Slaughter, Louisiana, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Naquin was pronounced dead at the scene.
