On a Saturday morning in Zachary, Louisiana, a simmering rivalry tragically boiled over, leaving 23-year-old Deshawn Sensley dead from a gunshot wound. The events of June 8, 2019, unfolded at a residence on Lemon Road where an attempt to settle a dispute with another man escalated into deadly violence.
Brothers Denzel and Bruce Jones arrived at the home around 11:00 a.m. with the intention of fighting a different man who was present.
When those at the residence refused to engage, Sensley asked the brothers to leave the property. As the Jones brothers were leaving, the situation took a fatal turn. According to authorities, Bruce Jones pointed a gun from his truck window and threatened to shoot Sensley. In response, Sensley drew his own handgun, and an exchange of gunfire erupted.
Following the shootout, Sensley was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Denzel and Bruce Jones. In their statements to detectives, the brothers claimed they acted in self-defense. Bruce Jones asserted that he only drew his weapon because Sensley was walking behind his truck. Denzel Jones claimed that Sensley fired the first shot, prompting both brothers to return fire because they knew he was armed. Two other adults and a minor were also present at the home during the tragic incident.
