On December 2, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at a trail riding event near Port Hudson, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 16-year-old La'Taurus Smith from Zachary, Louisiana. The event, which was intended to be a fun outing, turned into a night of terror and tragedy due to reckless gun use. La'Taurus Smith was fatally shot, and several others were injured in the incident. Two people were shot, and additional individuals suffered minor injuries while fleeing the scene of the gunfire.
