On the evening of Saturday, November 23, 2024, violent gunshots rang out on the north side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of 23-year-old Cornelius Quincey Gray. The incident unfolded near the intersection of 38th Street and Keystone Avenue, a busy area often frequented by locals. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s restaurant located at 2425 East 38th Street following urgent reports of a person shot.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered Cornelius Gray inside the establishment suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses at the scene reported that Gray had entered the restaurant seeking help, informing patrons and staff that he had been shot. Investigators later determined that the shooting itself had likely occurred just outside the building before the wounded man managed to make his way indoors. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Methodist Hospital in extremely critical condition, but despite their life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Homicide detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
