On the evening of Friday, December 13, 2024, a violent disturbance unfolded on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of Lamontra Landers, a 26-year-old African American male. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. within the Cloverleaf Apartments complex, specifically in the 800 block of Cloverleaf Terrace near West Washington Street and Interstate 465.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find a chaotic scene. Landers was discovered unresponsive inside a vehicle that had been riddled with bullets. Despite the arrival of emergency personnel, he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office, which later ruled the death a homicide.
The violence that night extended beyond a single victim, as police located a second adult male nearby who had also been shot. This surviving victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. nearly a year after the shooting, a breakthrough in the case led to an arrest. On October 22, 2025, authorities took 22-year-old Rodney Scott into custody in connection with Landers' death. The arrest followed the issuance of a warrant alleging Scott's involvement in the fatal altercation. He was subsequently charged with murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Police allegations suggest that the shooting was connected to a robbery attempt that escalated into lethal violence, bringing a new phase of legal proceedings to the long-standing investigation.
