In the predawn hours of November 22, 2017, the day before Thanksgiving, tragedy struck in Indianapolis when 24-year-old Jamontez D. Woods was found shot and critically injured. The incident occurred on the city's northeast side, where police responded to reports of a shooting. Another individual was also wounded in the event, but their injuries were not life-threatening. Woods, however, succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community and his family reeling from the sudden violence.
