On November 15, 2014, the Indianapolis community lost 37-year-old Carlos Gaither, a Black male also known affectionately as "C-Los" by those close to him. A resident of the city, Gaither was a father of three children named Adrianna, Pooh-Pooh, and De'Jah. He was remembered by friends and family as a loving, funny, and solid family man who had a deep passion for music.
His life was cut short on a Saturday night on the east side of Indianapolis, leaving a void for his loved ones who later gathered for his services at Life Line Ministries on East 33rd Street.
The fatal incident occurred around 9:39 p.m. when police officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Aspen Way following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Gaither’s body lying just inside the front entrance of a residence. Investigators at the scene determined that he had been shot elsewhere and had fled to the home in a desperate attempt to seek safety or help before collapsing. The preliminary investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department suggested that the shooting was likely the result of an attempted robbery that turned violent.
In the years following the homicide, public records and crime archives have listed the case among Indianapolis's unsolved investigations. While police initially posited the theory of a botched robbery, no specific suspects were publicly named in the immediate aftermath, and no arrests were reported in connection with the shooting in the available accounts of that year’s gun violence. The case has been referenced in local discussions regarding cold cases, with community members expressing frustration over the lack of significant progress and the absence of justice for a father taken too soon.
