The incident occurred around 5:16 p.m. in the 2000 block of Wade Road, a place familiar to Odom, who, despite having no fixed address, considered the area near the Parkchester Apartments his home. He was a proud graduate of Prince George's County public schools and maintained a deep connection to the Southeast community.

Department's Seventh District responded to reports of the shooting and discovered Odom suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by D.C. Fire and Emergency Services. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical personnel, Mark Odom succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
