On December 13, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting incident at The Villas at Park Place apartment complex, located at 8351 Park Place Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered James Robertson, 40, lying in the courtyard with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical attention from Houston Fire Department paramedics, Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that, prior to the shooting, Robertson was engaged in a heated argument with an unidentified male in the courtyard. The altercation escalated, culminating in the fatal shooting. Investigators from the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, including Sergeant A. Lopez and Detectives M. Perez, J. Escobar, and N. Sharp, conducted a thorough investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to identify the perpetrator.
Through diligent investigative work, authorities identified 34-year-old Lex Crouts as the primary suspect in Robertson's murder. On January 13, 2024, members of the HPD Eastside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team and the HPD Crime Reduction Unit apprehended Crouts without incident. Following his arrest, the Harris County District Attorney's Office charged Crouts with murder in the 488th State District Court.
