On February 3, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in East Austin, Texas, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Christian Loredo. The event occurred around 6:25 p.m. during the Freestyle Saturday 4th Annual Car Show, held in the parking lot of Fiesta Mart at 3909 North Interstate 35. Loredo was seated in his black truck with a family member, preparing to leave the event, when they were approached by a group of individuals.
A verbal altercation ensued, escalating rapidly when one of the individuals fired into Loredo's vehicle, fatally wounding him. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Loredo was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:40 p.m.
In the immediate aftermath, the assailants fled the scene, prompting an intensive investigation by the Austin Police Department. Witnesses at the car show provided crucial information, identifying 49-year-old Carlos Rivera as the shooter. Additionally, tips received through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program corroborated these accounts. On February 7, 2024, Rivera was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Loredo's death. He was subsequently booked into the Travis County Jail, with bond set at $1 million.
Further details emerged indicating that during the confrontation, a family member accompanying Loredo was physically assaulted by one of the suspects, who stole his cellphone and money before the shooting occurred.
