Harry Walchuk, a 38-year-old male of European descent, was a doctoral student at the University of Texas in Austin. On August 1, 1966, he was fatally shot in the chest by Charles Whitman during the infamous University of Texas tower shooting. Walchuk had been doing research at the UT Library and was on his way to get something to eat when he was shot while walking along Guadalupe Street. He instantly collapsed onto the sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene.
