Breyjon Martin, a 15-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on March 2, 2022, in Austin, Texas. He was a freshman at Lyndon B. Johnson Early College High School and was found injured at a home near the school. Despite the efforts of first responders, Breyjon was pronounced dead at the scene. The Austin Police Department identified his death as a result of a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.
when someone called 911 to report a shooting at a residence on Lazy Creek Drive. When APD officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, they found Breyjon with obvious trauma. Life-saving measures were attempted, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. There were multiple people inside the home at the time, but no one else was injured. Everyone present was cooperating with the police investigation.
The Austin Police Department initially considered Breyjon's death possibly accidental and suspicious. However, as the investigation progressed, it was determined to be a homicide. The police have not made any arrests in connection with the case, but those involved are cooperating with the investigation. The community, including the LBJ High School, has been deeply affected by the loss of Breyjon, and counseling support was provided to students and staff.
