On May 5, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., 22-year-old Jonyai Lavaughn Napoleon and 28-year-old Aaron Montgomery were fatally shot in the parking lot of the Park North Shopping Center in San Antonio, Texas. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to reports of gunfire at the location on Northwest Loop 410 near Blanco Road. Upon arrival, officers found both men with gunshot wounds; despite emergency medical efforts, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Security personnel at the shopping center reported observing two individuals fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. However, as officers arrived, the area was chaotic, with numerous people dispersing, complicating the identification of potential suspects. A 23-year-old woman was also listed as a victim in the preliminary police report; her vehicle was struck by gunfire, but she was not injured.
The SAPD launched a capital murder investigation into the incident. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities continue to seek information from the public to aid in solving the case.
Jonyai Napoleon was born on December 15, 2001, in San Antonio. He accepted Christ at the age of 11 at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and later converted to Islam in 2023. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and daughter, Royalty Michelle Jo'Ann Napoleon.
The tragic deaths of Napoleon and Montgomery have left a void in their community, with family and friends mourning their untimely passing. The ongoing investigation underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing violent crimes and the importance of community cooperation in bringing perpetrators to justice.
