On August 5, 2023, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the Woodlake Trails community on Golf Vista Boulevard in northeast Bexar County, where they discovered the body of 20-year-old Martin Jaquez-Martinez lying in the grass between two mobile homes. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators noted the absence of Jaquez-Martinez's vehicle, a white 2022 Toyota Tacoma, which was later found at a nearby school. Surveillance footage from the area showed an individual leaving the truck at the school and departing the scene. Further examination of the vehicle revealed fingerprints matching those of 20-year-old Nicholas Devion Sommers.
A search warrant executed at Sommers' residence, located within the same mobile home community where Jaquez-Martinez's body was found, uncovered critical evidence. Deputies discovered a .45 caliber handgun, consistent with the shell casing found at the crime scene, along with a key to the victim's truck and a pill bottle linked to a family member of Jaquez-Martinez. Ballistic analysis confirmed that the handgun was the murder weapon.
Sommers was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. At the time of his arrest, Sommers had no prior criminal history. Authorities are still investigating the nature of the relationship between Sommers and Jaquez-Martinez, as well as the motive behind the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
