On June 7, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., 28-year-old Robert Abdelkader III was fatally shot while catering a pool party in the 800 block of East Greenleaf Boulevard in Compton, California. The event, attended by an estimated 200 to 300 guests, was disrupted when multiple shooters opened fire, resulting in Abdelkader's death and injuries to five others—two men and three women—who sustained non-life-threatening wounds.
Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department determined that Abdelkader was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. The assailants were observed fleeing the scene through a rear alley. Despite the large number of attendees, authorities have faced challenges in gathering sufficient information to identify the perpetrators. In an effort to encourage witnesses to come forward, the FBI announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for Abdelkader's death.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Abdelkader's parents, Inez "Tootie" Adkins and Robert Abdelkader Jr., made public appeals for assistance in apprehending the killers. Adkins implored, "Help me get this killer off the streets because next time he could kill again, and it might be your son." Similarly, Abdelkader Jr. urged witnesses to break their silence, emphasizing his son's generous nature and the profound loss felt by the community.
Despite these efforts, as of December 26, 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities continue to seek the public's help, urging anyone with information to contact the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office or the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau.
