On March 15, 2025, 14-year-old Braiden Anthony Ray Johnson, a white male from Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot in his home on Dana Avenue in the Franklinton neighborhood. The incident occurred around 1:22 a.m., prompting a 911 call. Upon arrival, Columbus police detained several individuals at the scene. Family members had already transported Braiden to Mount Carmel Franklinton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m.
Braiden, affectionately known as "Ray-Ray," was remembered
by his family as an "old soul in a little body" who could make everyone laugh. He was the second youngest of six siblings and had previously attended Starling PreK-8. A memorial with tea lights spelling "Forever 14" was placed in front of his home, honoring his memory.
According to reports, the shooting may have been accidental. A friend who stayed over that night allegedly had a firearm, which discharged as Braiden was leaving the bedroom. Despite the circumstances, the Columbus Division of Police has referred the case to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office to determine appropriate charges.
Braiden's family is focusing on finding peace and raising funds for his burial. They have expressed a desire for privacy as the investigation continues.
