In the early evening of January 4, 2023, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a parking lot at Madison Park in Madison, Tennessee. Eric D. Baker, a 19-year-old Black male, was discovered in the driver's seat of his Nissan Sentra, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Baker, who was born on April 30, 2003, was an employee of both Amazon and Uber Eats.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing basketball and video games.
Homicide detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department quickly began an investigation into the fatal shooting. A handgun was recovered from the floorboard of Baker's vehicle. Investigators also found multiple shell casings in the parking lot, though it was noted that some might have been from unrelated gunfire on New Year's Eve. The motive for the shooting was determined to be a gun deal that had gone awry.
Just two weeks after the incident, on January 18, 2023, a significant development was made in the case. Metro Police arrested 18-year-old Mohamed Elnour Kulolu and charged him with criminal homicide in connection with Baker's death. According to the investigation led by Detective Chris Cote, Kulolu had arranged the gun deal that ultimately led to the fatal shooting. Following his arrest, Kulolu was held without bond.
