In the late hours of June 1, 2026, the life of 29-year-old Keontavious Bailey was tragically cut short on the 300 block of Dix Street in Lagrange, Georgia. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:40 p.m., LaGrange Police Department officers discovered Bailey unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency personnel from the LaGrange Fire Department and Troup AMR initiated lifesaving measures at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The initial stages of the investigation into the death of the male victim quickly took a dramatic and misleading turn.
The investigation initially pointed towards a physical altercation between Bailey and a woman named Telneschia Jones, which investigators believed escalated to the fatal shooting. This led to Jones's arrest on charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. However, the case was far from straightforward. As detectives delved deeper, new evidence emerged that completely exonerated Jones. It was discovered that a witness had deliberately provided false information to the police, leading them to wrongfully accuse her. Consequently, all charges against Jones were dismissed, and she was released from custody.
With the investigation back to square one, the focus shifted based on the newly uncovered evidence. This new information identified Randy Orlanda Johnson Jr. as the individual responsible for Bailey's death. Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. The complexity of the case further deepened with the arrest of another individual, 28-year-old Marecia Todd. Investigators determined that Todd had allegedly provided false statements about what she witnessed and had also tampered with evidence at the scene before the arrival of law enforcement. She turned herself in to the Troup County Jail on June 9 and was charged with providing false statements and tampering with evidence. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of Keontavious Bailey, a case that was significantly complicated by misinformation and false testimony from the outset.
