In the late hours of a Saturday night in LaGrange, Georgia, a dispute turned fatal, claiming the life of 22-year-old Zymerious Daunte' Cofield, a Black male. On March 22, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., police were called to the 900 block of Mason Street where they found Cofield suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders and police initiated immediate life-saving efforts at the scene before he was rushed to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly revealed that the incident stemmed from an altercation between Cofield and another individual. The subsequent investigation led to the identification of 18-year-old Dewan Harden Jr. as the suspect. He was located and apprehended by the West Point Police Department. Following his arrest, Harden was transported to the LaGrange Police Department for questioning.
Dewan Harden Jr. was later moved to the Troup County Jail, where he has been charged with murder. At the time of the incident, it was noted that Harden was not on active parole or probation. The LaGrange Police Department has continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and has encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
The death of Zymerious Cofield deeply affected his family and the community. Funeral services were held for him on April 5, 2025, at the Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Roanoke, Alabama, following a public visitation the day before. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and extended family members.
