In LaGrange, Georgia, on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, a violent encounter cut short the life of 20-year-old Davaris Lindsey. That evening, near the intersection of McGregor and Colquitt streets, Lindsey was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Wellstar West Georgia Medical for immediate treatment before being transferred to a hospital in the metro Atlanta area due to the severity of his injuries. Despite medical efforts, Lindsey succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The investigation into the shooting led the LaGrange Police Department to identify a suspect, 13-year-old Jayden Gunsby. Authorities issued arrest warrants for Gunsby, charging him as an adult with murder. After a public call for information on his whereabouts, Gunsby surrendered to the police on the evening of April 24, 2023. The president of the Troup County NAACP assisted Gunsby's family in arranging his surrender to the authorities.
While a motive for the shooting has not been officially released, investigators have indicated that Lindsey and Gunsby were acquainted with each other. Police also believe that other individuals were involved in the incident and that there may be connections to gang activity. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public regarding other potential suspects.
