In the winter of 2016, a string of violent events in LaGrange, Georgia, culminated in the tragic death of 20-year-old Daven Tucker. On the evening of December 17th, Tucker was in the front yard of his Newnan Street home when he was struck by a single bullet to the chest. Emergency responders rushed him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to the gunshot wound. The shooting was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted attack rooted in gang rivalry.
Investigators quickly pieced together the events leading to Tucker's death. Earlier that night, a group of individuals associated with a West Point street gang known as '4way' had gathered for a memorial for a friend. Following the memorial, a caravan of cars traveled to LaGrange. One of the vehicles, belonging to Dextreion Shealey, was reportedly shot at. In retaliation, Shealey, along with other members of the '4way' gang, planned to attack the home of Daven Tucker, who was a member of the rival 'Mob' gang. Two vehicles, one dark and one light-colored, drove to Newnan Street where multiple occupants opened fire.
The investigation led law enforcement to a Red Roof Inn in Valley, Alabama, where several individuals believed to be involved in the homicide were located. With the assistance of the Valley Police Department, Coty Green and Charles Loveless were arrested and subsequently charged with murder. Further investigation and legal proceedings identified additional suspects. Dextreion Shealey and Kelvin Hurston were also charged and, following a trial, were found guilty of felony murder and other crimes related to the shooting.
The court proceedings revealed a detailed conspiracy to commit violence. Several other individuals connected to the '4way' gang, including Natori Lee, Dantavious Rutledge, Zachary Holloway, Andre Gilliam, and Shawndarious Sands, were also indicted on various charges. Some of these individuals entered guilty pleas and provided testimony for the prosecution, helping to secure the convictions of Shealey and Hurston. The evidence presented at trial painted a grim picture of a planned and executed act of gang violence that ultimately claimed the life of Daven Tucker.
