In the late afternoon of September 18, 2019, 20-year-old Eric Jauregui, a Hispanic male, was fatally shot inside his car in a shopping center parking lot located at 117 Gallatin Pike North in Madison, Tennessee. The incident was the result of a planned robbery that turned deadly. Jauregui was rushed to Skyline Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that a group of individuals had plotted to rob Jauregui of marijuana and a gun.
Three individuals, Josue Mojica, then 18, Ronaldo Conde, then 16, and Ashley A. Garcia, 20, were involved in the setup. Garcia was in the car with Jauregui when one of their associates entered the vehicle, and gunfire erupted. Garcia sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the shooting.
Following the incident, Mojica and Conde fled the scene. They were later arrested and charged with criminal homicide. After being treated at a local hospital, Ashley A. Garcia was also taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide after she admitted to her role in the robbery plan.
A fourth suspect, Juan Posada, who was 18 at the time, was initially sought for questioning as he was believed to have knowledge of the events. By April 2020, Posada was also in custody, having been arrested in an unrelated case and subsequently booked on an indictment for first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery in connection with Jauregui's death. All four individuals were charged for their involvement in the fatal robbery plot.
