In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, 26-year-old Charqwan Howse was fatally shot in Madison, Tennessee. The incident unfolded after a pregnant woman reported to a relative that she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend, Tony Wray, age 29.
In response to the woman's call for help, Howse accompanied her relative to Wray's apartment at Walker Terrace to intervene. An argument ensued on the front porch between Wray, Howse, the relative, and another woman who was present. During this confrontation, Wray is accused of shooting Howse without provocation.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene just before midnight and discovered Howse on the sidewalk with critical injuries. Despite receiving aid from the officers until the Nashville Fire Department arrived, Howse succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
Tony Wray, who was armed with a handgun when police arrived, was taken into custody at the scene. Following questioning by homicide detectives, Wray was charged with criminal homicide for the death of Charqwan Howse. In addition to the homicide charge, Wray also faces two counts of aggravated assault related to his girlfriend and another count of aggravated assault involving a second female witness at the scene.
