On November 27, 2017, a young man's life was cut short in a sudden act of violence on a Metro Transit Authority bus in Madison, Tennessee. Tyvonceea Hayden, an 18-year-old male, was shot and killed while riding the bus near the Madison Library. The incident unfolded quickly, with witnesses reporting that Hayden and another young man, Antonio Jones, exchanged only a few words before the fatal shot was fired.
According to police reports and witness accounts, Hayden and Jones, who were
acquaintances, boarded the bus together. As the bus traveled along Gallatin Pike, Jones allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Hayden in the chest. The bus driver promptly pulled over, at which point Jones and his girlfriend, who was with him and carrying an infant, fled the scene in different directions.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Antonio Jones, who was also 18 years old at the time, surrendered to authorities. A family member drove him to the police department where he turned himself in. His girlfriend was located and apprehended later the same day. Investigators learned that Hayden had been in a dating relationship with a relative of Jones, suggesting a possible motive for the tragic event. Jones was subsequently charged with criminal homicide in connection with Tyvonceea Hayden's death.
