On the evening of March 16, 2022, Jeffery Carter Jr., a 40-year-old White / Caucasian man, found himself in a fatal confrontation in Madison, Tennessee. The events unfolded at approximately 7:20 p.m. at a Mapco gas station located at 401 Myatt Drive. Carter had pulled into the station in his gray 2003 Toyota Corolla when a black four-door sedan pulled up alongside him.
Witnesses reported that the male driver of the sedan began yelling at Carter.
Ignoring a female voice from the sedan reportedly saying, 'let it go,' Carter exited his vehicle to engage with the man. It was during this confrontation that the suspect shot Carter, who then fell to the ground. Despite his injuries, Carter managed to get back into his Corolla and drive a short distance before his vehicle came to a final stop near the intersection of Anderson Lane and Myatt Drive.
The gunman fled the scene, turning south on Myatt Drive before heading eastbound on Anderson Lane. He was described by witnesses as a Black man in his 30s with a short afro and a goatee. Metro Nashville Police Department later released surveillance images of the suspect's vehicle and a female person of interest who was a passenger in the car, seen wearing a purple sweatshirt.
As of now, the investigation into the shooting death of Jeffery Carter Jr. remains ongoing, with homicide detectives actively seeking to identify both the gunman and the woman who was with him. No arrests have been announced in connection with the case. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the identities of the individuals involved to contact Crime Stoppers.
