In the summer of 2016, a quiet street in Madison, Tennessee, became the scene of a tragedy that cut short the life of 56-year-old John Stowers. On July 18th, a friend made a grim discovery on the porch of Stowers' mobile home on Queen Ann Drive, finding him the victim of a fatal shooting. The investigation into his death would soon point to a dispute that ended in violence.
Neighbors in the area recalled hearing the sound of gunfire late the previous night, around 11:30 p.m., but the
full scope of what had transpired only came to light when Stowers was found deceased at approximately 2:30 a.m. The circumstances of his death prompted an immediate investigation by law enforcement.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old, Tyler Atkins. Authorities charged the teenager with criminal homicide in connection with the shooting death of Stowers. The case against Atkins moved through the justice system, and a Davidson County Grand Jury later handed down an indictment for first-degree murder.
