In the early evening hours of October 16, 2024, a tragic event unfolded on Gallavista Avenue in Madison, Tennessee, that would claim the life of 18-year-old Micah Anthony Pruitt. A Black/African American male from the nearby city of Gallatin, Pruitt was a student at Portland High School, born on December 4, 2005. The vibrant teenager, remembered for his spirited personality, found himself in a situation that would ultimately prove fatal.
Just after 6 p.m., a Toyota Camry riddled with bullet holes arrived at TriStar Skyline Medical Center. Inside were Pruitt and a 20-year-old companion, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, Micah Pruitt was pronounced dead at the hospital. His companion was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently released. The Metro Nashville Police Department's investigation into the shooting quickly pointed towards a narcotics transaction that had gone horribly wrong.
The day following the shooting, a significant development occurred in the case. A 16-year-old named Brayan Sandoval-Ortuno voluntarily walked into police headquarters to provide a statement about his involvement in the incident. During the course of the interview with detectives, Sandoval-Ortuno confessed to firing at Pruitt during the drug deal. Based on his confession, he was arrested and faced charges in Juvenile Court for criminal homicide and aggravated assault, bringing a swift but somber turn to the investigation into the untimely death of Micah Pruitt.
