In the early moments of a Friday morning in Nashville, the life of Xavier Javon Taylor, a 22-year-old Black male, was cut short by gunfire. On January 27, 2023, just after midnight, police were called to the J.C. Napier Homes complex on Lafayette Street after reports of shots fired and people fleeing the area. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the door to an apartment slightly ajar. Inside, they found Xavier Taylor lying wounded on the living room couch, having sustained gunshot wounds.
