On a Saturday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 36-year-old Nathan McDade was tragically cut short. On January 6, 2018, while visiting with friends at a home on Briarwood Drive in the Crieve Hall neighborhood, an act of sudden violence unfolded. At approximately 9:30 p.m., two or three armed and masked men burst through an unlocked front door and immediately opened fire. In the chaos that ensued, Nathan McDade was the only individual struck by the gunfire.
He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The assailants fled the scene as quickly as they had arrived, leaving behind a senseless tragedy. Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police Department believe the motive for the deadly home invasion was robbery. Despite the presence of four other people in the house at the time of the shooting, McDade was the sole victim. The swiftness of the attack left witnesses with limited descriptions of the perpetrators. One of the gunmen was described as a Black male with long dreadlocks, wearing all black. Another was reported to be wearing a dark gray hoodie.
In the years that have followed, the investigation into Nathan McDade's murder has remained active, eventually moving to the purview of the Metro Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Unit. No arrests have been made in connection with the case. A cash reward has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the death of the beloved father, son, and brother who was remembered for his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. His family continues to seek justice and answers in his unsolved murder.
