In the early hours of April 17, 2019, the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the quiet of a Little Rock neighborhood. When police responded to the 2400 block of Cross Street at approximately 1:18 a.m., they discovered a grim scene. Inside a white Chevrolet Suburban, 32-year-old Jose Castro, a male, was found deceased, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
Two other men, Randy Canela and Arnaldo Marengo, were also at the scene with gunshot injuries.
Both were transported to a local hospital with wounds that were not considered life-threatening. According to statements from Marengo and Canela, an assailant shot Marengo first, then opened fire on Canela and Castro before making a getaway.
Homicide detectives began their investigation at the scene, collecting evidence from the area. The vehicle belonging to Castro was impounded for further examination. The suspect was reported to have fled in a dark blue Chevrolet Camaro. The body of Jose Castro was taken to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy to be performed. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into the death of Jose Castro remains ongoing.
