In the late hours of a September evening in Nashville, Tennessee, a dispute in a nightclub parking lot escalated to a fatal conclusion. The incident, which occurred on September 16, 2018, resulted in the shooting death of 24-year-old Dequinta Young, a Black male. The altercation took place behind Club Premium on Murfreesboro Pike, reportedly stemming from an argument over a blocked vehicle.
During the course of the dispute, Young was shot.
He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Metro Nashville Police Department quickly began an investigation into the shooting.
Within two days, law enforcement identified and apprehended a suspect. Deandre Sherrill, who was 26 years old at the time, was taken into custody at an apartment complex in Madison. The arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in conjunction with the Metro Nashville Police Gang Unit. Sherrill was subsequently charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Dequinta Young.
