In the quiet of a Sunday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of Linda Williams, a 61-year-old female, was tragically cut short. On February 19, 2023, what began as a normal night in her apartment in the James Cayce Homes ended in unforeseen violence. A single bullet, fired from outside, penetrated the walls of her home and struck her. The gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. from the direction of a nearby apartment on South 6th Street.
Responding to the scene, law enforcement officers discovered that the bullet had traveled through an upstairs bathroom window, fatally wounding Williams. She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but the efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. The unexpected nature of the event left a community in shock and a family grappling with the sudden loss of a loved one. Linda Ann Williams, born on March 25, 1961, was remembered as a cherished mother and grandmother.
The investigation into her death moved swiftly. Authorities utilized surveillance footage from the area which captured a man, later identified as 40-year-old Montez Dennis, exiting an apartment across the street. The footage showed him discharging a firearm in the direction of Williams's residence before retreating back inside. Armed with this evidence, officers approached the apartment Dennis had entered.
Inside the residence, investigators found two firearms. Dennis was taken into custody, and during an interview with detectives, he implicated himself in the shooting. He claimed that he was attempting to 'unjam' the gun while standing outside when it accidentally discharged. Following his confession, Montez Dennis was arrested and charged with criminal homicide for his role in the death of Linda Williams.
