In the spring of 2023, the life of a four-year-old girl, Taliyah Frazier, was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of May 30th, Taliyah was a passenger in a Chevrolet Malibu, accompanied by two-year-old twin boys and their 22-year-old father, who was driving. As they waited at a red light at the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Douglas Avenue, another vehicle pulled alongside them.
Two individuals exited the second car and unleashed a barrage of gunfire into the Malibu in what law enforcement described as a targeted, non-random attack.
During the chaotic scene, Taliyah was struck in the head by a bullet. One of the twin boys sustained a graze wound to his head, while his brother and the driver were also wounded. The driver of the Malibu managed to speed away from the scene, driving approximately three miles to a dollar store where the children's mother was working. Emergency services were called to the parking lot to provide medical assistance. Despite their efforts, Taliyah Frazier succumbed to her injuries the following day, on May 31, 2023.
The investigation into the shooting led Nashville police to identify and apprehend four suspects. Trey Dennis, 23, Keimari Johnson, 20, Kenlando Lewis, 18, and Lamarion Buchanan, 19, were all taken into custody. The men face charges including criminal homicide in connection with the death of Taliyah Frazier. Buchanan was the last of the four to be apprehended, located and arrested in Thomasville, North Carolina, a week after the shooting. The suspects' abandoned vehicle was also recovered by investigators a few days after the incident.
