In a heartbreaking turn of events on January 12, 2018, the life of 5-year-old SaMaii Rain Daniel, a young female, was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. She, along with her 8-year-old sister, Samma'Rie Breeze Daniel, and a 70-year-old man named Robert Payne, became the victims of a violent rampage that shook the community. The incident began in the afternoon at their North Nashville home.
The alleged perpetrator, 24-year-old Queshan Brooks, who was the girls' stepbrother,
reportedly opened fire on his stepmother and her two young daughters. While the mother sustained non-life-threatening injuries, SaMaii and her sister Samma'Rie were fatally wounded by gunshots to the head. This act of domestic violence was only the beginning of the tragic chain of events that unfolded that day.
Following the shooting at the family home, Brooks is said to have fled the scene and, shortly after, carjacked a gold Chevrolet Impala occupied by two men. During this carjacking, he allegedly shot both individuals. The driver, Robert Payne, succumbed to his injuries, marking the third fatality of the day. The passenger was also shot and pistol-whipped but survived with critical injuries. The violent spree came to an end when the stolen vehicle spun off Interstate 40. Law enforcement was able to track Brooks' footprints in the snow and apprehend him as he was walking along the interstate. He was subsequently arrested and faced three counts of murder for the deaths of SaMaii, Samma'Rie, and Robert Payne.
