On August 1, 2023, 29-year-old Eric Reed was fatally shot inside his apartment on South 5th Street in East Nashville. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, two men entered Reed's apartment around 10:20 a.m., and a gunshot was heard shortly thereafter. Both men fled the scene immediately following the shooting. Reed was found by officers suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died.
