Jeremy R. Nedow, 39, a White man, was killed on January 26, 2017, after what police described as a targeted robbery in East Nashville. Just after 7 p.m., he was inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of Jones Circle when gunfire erupted, leaving him mortally wounded. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but he did not survive.
Investigators came to believe the encounter wasn’t random.
Their working timeline said Nedow had just arrived at 2024 Jones Circle when a suspect slipped into the backseat of his car. A second person—unidentified at the time—was also believed to be involved. In the chaos that followed, the robbery turned violent, and the assailants fled the area together in another vehicle, leaving Nedow behind in the driver’s seat and neighbors stunned by how quickly the night had changed.
Early reporting said Nedow was in the car with a pregnant woman when they were robbed. Arrest records described money being taken from her, and authorities alleged Nedow was shot during the course of that theft. Police publicly emphasized that the pair appeared to have been specifically targeted, suggesting the gunman arrived with intent rather than opportunity.
In March 2017, Metro Nashville Police announced an arrest. DeShaun J. Dunlap, 23, was booked into the Davidson County Jail, facing multiple serious charges that included first-degree premeditated murder along with robbery-related counts. Investigators said he was taken into custody near his Prince Street residence, and a $500,000 bond was set as the case moved forward.
Even with Dunlap jailed, police indicated the story might have more than one player. A Davidson County grand jury indictment charged Dunlap with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery, while investigators continued searching for the suspected accomplice described as a white male in his 20s to 30s with tattoos on his face, neck, and arms. Tips were directed to Crime Stoppers as detectives worked to identify the second person believed to have been inside the car before the two suspects disappeared into the night.
