In the early hours of a Friday in Nashville, Tennessee, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet, leaving a 33-year-old Black man, Dequan Howse, dead. The incident, which police have described as an apparent targeted shooting, unfolded on April 28, 2023, in a courtyard within the Napier Place community. Howse, who was known to frequent the area but was not a resident, was walking through the courtyard when he was ambushed.
