On a Tuesday afternoon, August 29, 2023, tragedy struck at a Citgo gas station on Brick Church Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, claiming the life of 20-year-old Keonta M. Brown. A Black male, Brown had arrived at the gas station with a friend and was inside the convenience store when the serene day was shattered by the sound of gunfire at approximately 3:45 p.m.
The shots originated from a vehicle that had driven into the parking lot.
Bullets tore through the air, finding their mark and striking Brown. In the immediate aftermath, he was rushed by a private vehicle to Skyline Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts, Keonta M. Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly began an investigation, quickly coming to the belief that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather that Brown had been specifically targeted. Investigators have been pursuing active leads in the case, but as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting.
