On October 6, 2023, 18-year-old Demarcus "Alex" Hughes was fatally shot at West End Park in Cookeville, Tennessee. The Cookeville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting that evening, discovering Hughes and another juvenile victim with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, where Hughes succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
