In the late afternoon hours of November 29, 2023, the life of 25-year-old Demetrius Lamont Johnson, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in a shooting that unfolded in the south Halls Crossroads area of Knoxville, Tennessee. The Knox County Sheriff's Office received reports of the shooting at approximately 3:48 p.m. and dispatched deputies to the scene at 6408 Maynardville Pike, near the intersection with Rifle Range Road and Brown Gap Road.
Upon their arrival,
deputies discovered Johnson suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Demetrius Lamont Johnson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators with the Sheriff's Office described the shooting as appearing to be an isolated or targeted incident.
This was not the first time Johnson had been a victim of gun violence. In May of 2017, at the age of 19, he was one of two individuals wounded in a shooting at the Green Hills Apartments in East Knoxville. In that incident, both he and another man sustained injuries.
As of early December 2023, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with Johnson's death. The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing, and detectives have urged anyone with information or possible video surveillance footage from the area to come forward and contact the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
