On the evening of July 17th, Wise was walking home after a trip to the Food City grocery store. His journey took him through Malcolm Martin Park on Western Avenue, a familiar path that on this night would be his last. It was in this park that he was discovered, having been shot multiple times.
The discovery of Wise's body, accompanied by the groceries he had just
purchased, presented a puzzling scene for investigators. Robbery was quickly ruled out as a motive, as none of his personal belongings appeared to have been taken. This lack of an obvious reason for the violent act deepened the mystery surrounding his death.
