On June 9, 2019, gunshots shattered the pre-dawn quiet near the Sunnight Lounge on Maryville Pike. When police officers arrived around 2:40 a.m., they discovered a chaotic scene and found Nahimana suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his wounds proved to be fatal.

Born in Tanzania, Africa, on July 19, 1998, Zacharia, who was affectionately known as 'Ocho,' had moved to the United States with his family in February 2008. He attended Stone Mountain Middle School and later Austin East High School. At the time of his death, he was an employee at a local McDonald's.
