Unbeknownst to her, her ex-husband, Lester Lee Fletcher Jr., also 32, was lying in wait.
In the darkness of the apartment complex parking lot, just after midnight, residents heard a man and a woman
arguing, the sounds of their dispute escalating before being silenced by the crack of gunfire. Lester Fletcher Jr. had ambushed Michelle, driving up to her car and threatening her. He then shot her multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
When police responded to calls about the shooting, they discovered a grim scene. Both Michelle Miranda Fletcher and Lester Lee Fletcher Jr. were found in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly determined the incident to be a murder-suicide, with Michelle as the victim of a domestic violence homicide.
The couple had a history of a troubled relationship. They had met in high school and had a 13-year-old son together. However, their marriage had ended in a divorce that was finalized just a month before the fatal encounter.
