In the early morning hours of June 11, 2024, the body of 24-year-old Carlos Camaja, a Hispanic male from Springfield, Tennessee, was discovered by railroad tracks near the Robertson and Montgomery County line in the vicinity of Adams. First responders were initially alerted to a potential accident involving a pedestrian and a train, but it was quickly determined that Camaja had been shot to death and his body left at the location.
The investigation into his death was promptly launched by the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators soon concluded that Camaja was likely shot at a residence on North Oak Street in Springfield before his body was transported to the rural area where he was found. The subsequent investigation, with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, led to the identification of two suspects. On June 24, 2024, law enforcement arrested 48-year-old Celia Ramirez-Hernandez, who was reportedly Camaja's girlfriend, and her 34-year-old son, Misael Cruz-Hernandez.
Both Celia Ramirez-Hernandez and Misael Cruz-Hernandez were charged with criminal homicide, criminal simulation, and fabricating or tampering with evidence. They were subsequently held without bond. Adding another layer to the case, it was revealed that Camaja's roommate, Apolinar Sadierna-Garcia, also known as Polo, had been reported missing from the same North Oak Street residence just a day after Camaja's body was discovered. Sadierna-Garcia was reportedly last seen on June 7. Authorities have not officially confirmed if the two cases are connected, and both investigations remain ongoing.
