In the summer of 2021, the life of 54-year-old Maurice Reece Wallace was tragically cut short in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On the evening of June 29th, Wallace was on East 28th Street when he was fatally wounded by gunfire. The Chattanooga Police Department responded to the scene and initiated a homicide investigation into the male victim's death.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, Darius Woods.
However, by the time law enforcement had secured warrants for his arrest, Woods had fled the state of Tennessee. The U.S. Marshals Service was tasked with locating and apprehending the fugitive. Their investigation led them to Jacksonville, Florida, where they discovered that Woods was hiding out in a local apartment complex. On a July morning, U.S. Marshals, in collaboration with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, executed a search warrant at the residence and successfully took Woods into custody without incident.
Following his capture in Florida, Darius Woods was extradited back to Chattanooga to face the charges against him. He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on charges of criminal homicide in connection with the death of Maurice Wallace. The case then moved into the judicial system for prosecution.
